Jones, VanEtten set course marks in sweep

ElkLakerunners Luke Jones and Jenny VanEtten each set course marks atDelawareValleyon Tuesday as both the boys’ and girls’ teams ended with a sweep of Wallenpaupack andDelawareValley.

Jones finished the 3.0 mile course in16:28to set a course record as the Warriors toppedDelawareValley15-50 and Wallenpaupack 27-30.

VanEtten finished in20:18to set the course mark as the lady Warriors toppedDelawareValley15-48 and Wallenpaupack 19-38.

On the boys’ side,ElkLakealso had top finishes from Eddie Cumens in fourth at17:40, Dalton Sherman in fifth at17:46and Hunter Bedell in eighth at18:08.

On the girls’ side, Elizabeth Trowbridge notched a third place finish at20:32, Lainey Bedell finished fourth at20:35, Kenzie Jones took fifth at20:39, Kellie Grosvenor took 12th at22:12and Cassie Salsman placed 15th at22:34.

Blue Ridge

TheBlue Ridgecross country teams opened the season atDelawareValleyon Wednesday with the boys going 1-2 and the girls’ finishing 0-2 on the day.

Blue Ridge’s boys picked up a 25-30 win overDelawareValleyand fell 20-43 to Wallenpaupack while the girls’ team faced a 26-29 loss toDelawareValleyand a 17-44 loss to Wallenpaupack.

Jake Hinkley finished second place overall for the Raiders at 17:23, 55 seconds behind first place finisher Luke Jones ofElkLake.

Also finishing tops for the Raider boys was Billy Rupakus, who took 14th place at19:01.

On the girls’ side, Lauren Whitney finished 10th at21:31while Casey Purdum took 13th at22:19to place the Raiders.

Montrose

The Montrose Area girls’ cross country team went 1-2 while the boys were 0-2 at a meet atDelawareValleyon Wednesday.

Montrose’s girls took a 22-35 victory overDelawareValleywhile falling 22-37 to Wallenpaupack. The boys’ team took a 25-34 loss to DV and a 15-48 loss to ‘Paupack.

On the girls’ side, Sam Bennici took second place overall at20:30, behindElkLake’s Jenny VanEtten at20:18. Allison Lewis finished in 11th at23:38to kelp the Meteors.

On the boys’ side, Chris Arnold finished 11th at18:44while Chris Hollenbeck took 15th at19:20to pace Montrose.

Susquehanna

The Susquehanna girls’ cross country team opened the season with a win overRiversideon Wednesday at Lackawanna Trail while the boys’ team took a pair of losses.

The Lady Sabers beatRiverside22-35 while the boys’ team fell 21-40 toDunmoreand 26-30 toRiverside.

Ivy Christenson took first place overall for the Susquehanna girls at23:04while Mikayla Hargett placed third at23:20.

Also helping the Lady Sabers was a fifth place finish from Alissa Sweeney at 24:18 and a 13th place finish from Donna Decker at 25:55.

On the boys’ side, Susquehanna was topped by Brandon Soden who finished seventh at18:52and Justin Acone who took ninth at19:51.

Mountain View

TheMountain Viewboys’ cross country team opened the season with a pair of losses at Lackawanna Trail on Wednesday.

Mountain Viewfell 16-47 againstDunmoreand 20-37 againstRiverside.
