Montrose Area’s Zach Warriner won his second round matchup at the District II Class AA tennis singles championship on Thursday at Kirby Park in Wilkes-Barre before being defeated in the quarterfinals.
Warriner received a bye in the first round before facing Valley View’s Ian Betti in the second round where Warriner took a 7-6 (8-6), 6-3, victory to advance to the quarterfinals.
However, the quarterfinals saw Warriner take a loss against Scranton Prep’s Walker Temperton by a score of 6-3, 6-3.
Montrose’s Michael Roman also competed on Thursday, where he faced a first round loss from Wyoming Seminary’s Bijoy Ghosh by a score of 6-1, 6-4.
The Meteors’ doubles’ teams will be back in action on Wednesday morning with the District II Class AA doubles championships at Kirby Park starting at 9 a.m.
