The Susquehanna County Commissioners set the 2016 holiday schedule at the Oct. 28 meeting.

In addition to 11 recognized holidays, the county also holds two other “floating” holidays each year. Floating holidays in 2016 will be observed on Tuesday, July 5 and Monday, Dec. 26.

Holidays observed by the county – and closing the courthouse – are as follows:

New Year’s Day: Friday, Jan. 1; Presidents’ Day: Monday, Feb. 15; Good Friday: Friday, March 25; Memorial Day: Monday, May 30; Independence Day: Monday, July 4; Floating holiday: Tuesday, July 5; Labor Day: Monday, Sept. 5; Columbus Day: Monday, Oct. 10; Veterans’ Day: Friday, Nov. 11; Thanksgiving: Thursday and Friday, Nov. 24-25; Christmas: Friday, Dec. 23; Floating holiday: Monday, Dec. 26.

Both the maintenance department and the county jail will soon get new vehicles.

The commissioners authorized the purchase of a 2016 F-550 with a dump bed and snow plow for $72,463 for the maintenance department. The cost will be paid out of Act 89 and Liquid Fuels funds at the state Costars program pricing.

A 12 passenger 2016 transit-350 is being purchased for the jail at a cost of about $44,935 – paid for with Act 13 funds at Costars pricing.

The 2016 contract with Northern Tier Regional Planning & Development Commissioners was approved, along with a $14,700 allocation to the agency.

Commissioner Alan Hall said that this year, the NTRPDC has brought over $30 million in services and programs to Susquehanna County, including transportation project planning and funding.

The funding of one of the two presented seminar requests on the agenda was pulled.

Approval for Erica Johnson, victim witness coordinator in the district attorney’s office, to attend a Dec. 10 “Advocating During Difficult Cases” seminar was tabled after some discussion by the commissioners over funding of its $320 cost.

Commissioner Michael Giangrieco said that normally funds would be available from a different source to cover the cost of the seminar.
