Local teams finished their season during the week of Oct. 13 or found themselves finishing on Monday with the playoff picture coming into a clearer view. Montrose solidified its standing at the top of the District II Class A playoff power rankings to attain the top seed with a pair of wins.
The Lady Meteors defeated Lakeland 3-2 thanks to the leg of Libby Bush who scored the
game-winning goal with 11 minutes remaining in the game.
Ava Martin put Montrose on the board first with a goal off an assist from Hailey Aukema. Bush
extended the lead to 2-0 with an assist by Rylee Traver. Lakeland cut the lead in half just before
halftime and scored the first goal of the second half to knot things up. Myckenna Kublo had five
saves in the goal for the Lady Meteors.
Montrose then finished off its regular season with a 5-0 shut out of Elk Lake behind Alanna
Welsh’s hat trick. Martin and Alyssa Jackson had the other two goals and Bush had an assist. Goalkeeper Kublo had six saves to record the shut out. Her counterpart for Elk Lake Olivia Galella had three saves in their season finale.
Elk Lake also suffered an 8-0 shutout at the hands of Western Wayne. Galella had five saves
for the Lady Warriors. Elk Lake finished the season with a record of 4-12-1 and at press time
were ranked tenth in the District II Class A standings and will not qualify for the playoffs
Playing with limited numbers due to a variety of injuries Mountain View courageously continued
its season with a bit of success.
Tuesday, the Lady Eagles traveled to Holy Cross with just 10 healthy players and battled to a
1-1 tie. Mountain View took the early lead on an own goal as the ball glanced off a Holy Cross defender and into the goal. Holy Cross tied the game with just under 16 minutes remaining and neither team could score in the overtime periods. Lady Eagle goalkeeper Kaitlyn Beach had six saves.
On Senior Night, Sophomore Danica Rosenbaum scored in the third minute of overtime off an
assist from Emily Trichilo to give the Lady Eagles a thrilling 3-2 victory. Rosenbaum also had a goal in the second half off an assist from Senior Ava Ferguson, and she assisted on a first half goal from Demi Messner. Beach again had six saves in the goal for Mountain View completed its season on Monday when they traveled to face undefeated Western Wayne. Standing at 5-9-1, even a victory over the Wildcats would not be enough to elevate the Lady Eagles to the final playoff spot.
Forest City split during the week, shutting out Scranton 8-0 and falling to Honesdale 9-0. Stats
for either game were not made available.
Blue Ridge traveled to Western Wayne on Saturday, October 18 and fell to the Lady Wildcats
5-0. Goalkeeper Melodie Bloomer had 10 saves.
The Lady Raiders completed their season on Monday hosting Holy Cross. A win would solidify
Blue Ridge as the fourth seed where they would host Dunmore. A loss coupled with results of other games between Class A teams could see Blue Ridge and Dunmore flip flop places where the Lady Raiders would then travel to Dunmore.
Montrose is poised to host Wyoming Seminary Thursday unless the Lady Blue Knights were to
get some help and jump ahead of the seven seed Forest City.
