Blue Ridge volleyball has high standards. After a season in which the team’s results could be judged as not what their fans are used to, three players made sure the Lady Raiders lived up to their fanbase’s expectations.
Lackawanna League volleyball coaches bestowed honors on three Blue Ridge players and
three other local players in their recent coaches all star teams. Blue Ridge hitter Abigail Gelinger led the contingency earning first-team honors after a season in which she amassed 240 kills in the season and reached the 500 kill milestone in the Lady Raiders’ opening round win over Elk Lake.
Second team all-star Addison Kilmer of Mountain View offered her perspective after facing Gelinger during the season.
“She’s just super athletic and really gets in the air,” Kilmer said about Gelinger. “She’s just a
great all around player with her ability to hit and serve.”
Gelinger was joined on the first team by Montrose’s Sadie Jones. The outstanding basketball and track athlete garnered a coach’s nomination in a third sport after an excellent season in which she contributed heavily along the net for the Lady Meteors.
“She’s just an outstanding hitter and an underrated passer,” Kilmer said of Jones.
Kilmer was named to the second team after collecting 213 kills on the season and reaching the
500 career kills milestone.
To go along with the personal distinction, Kilmer felt her team’s success has been the most
rewarding aspect of her high school volleyball career.
“I’m most proud of the two district championships and my teammates,” Kilmer said.
Joining Kilmer on the second team was Blue Ridge setter Mckenna Zick. Zick had 537 assists
on the season and reached the 1,000 career milestone during her team’s District II playoff
opener. Montrose’s Molly Weller and Blue Ridge’s Emily Gorham were named as Honorable Mentions.
