Several inches of snow were unable to cool off action on the hardwood as all the county teams found themselves in action the first full week of the season. The early week snowstorm put Elk Lake in the tough spot of playing back-to-back to start their season, but the Warriors managed to pull out a pair of victories.
In their season debut, Elk Lake erupted for 22 points in the third quarter to pull away for a 65-40
win over Nanticoke. John Heitsman paced the Warriors with 18 points while Chase Pond added 12 and Kendel Jones finished with 11 points.
The following night, Elk Lake traveled to Wyalusing and handed the Rams a 65-47 loss after
doubling up Wyalusing 37-18 over the middle two quarters. Pond paced Elk Lake with 22 points while Brayden Miller added 11 points and Jones had 10. Wyalusing also fell to Susquehanna as the Sabers jumped out early in a 73-45 win over the Rams. Griffin Fisk had 22 points to lead the Sabers while Hudson Stengel added 13 points and Mason Keyes added 12.
Northeast Bradford opened a double digit lead in the first half to spoil the Blue Ridge season
debut with a 61-46 win. The Raiders stayed within five in the second half after trailing 28-18 at intermission, losing the final two quarters 33-28.
Travis Rutter led the way with 13 points while Landon Bishop connected on three three-pointers
and finished with 11. Paxton Pingarelli and Brendan Marvin each chipped in with eight points.
Dunmore erupted for 27 first quarter points and kept Blue Ridge winless with a 70-35 victory.
Pingarelli led the Raiders with 15 points.
In the consolation game of the Mountain View Tip-Off Classic, Lehigh Valley Christian held the
host Eagles to single digits every quarter to roll to a 63-23 victory. Hudson Bain led Mountain View with 13 points to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. Two nights later, the Eagles got off to a faster start, jumping out on host Tunkhannock 15-8 in the first quarter before cooling off and falling 53-32. Bain and Jordan Jagger each scored six points in the opening quarter and Bain added six more in the second as the Eagles took a 23-18 lead into the locker room.
But Tunhannock held Mountain View to four field goals after intermission and created easy
opportunities with their defensive pressure. Bain again led the way with 14 points while Jagger added eight.
Towanda mirrored Montrose in the first half leading the Meteors 31-13 by halftime and rolled to a 55-27 win. Sawyer Brown paced Montrose with 10 points while Logan Rhinevault added nine. Forest City suffered a pair of losses in the Jerry Finan Memorial Tournament held at Carbondale Area high school.
In the semifinal, the Foresters fell to the host Chargers 55-24. Jaxon Owens had seven points to
lead Forest City while Jayden Carter added six.
