In a busy two-week stand girls’ basketball teams did some final fine tuning before the league
opener on Thursday, December 18 and the Christmas holiday tournaments.
Forest City provided the biggest news of the opening night of Lackawanna League Division III

league champion Elk Lake 50-42 in overtime.
Trailing 31-26 going into the fourth quarter, the Lady Foresters rallied and outscored the Lady
Warriors – who had several players battling illness leading up to the game, 13-8 to force
overtime.
Forest City maintained the momentum and Michaela Zaveri scored five points in the extra
stanza to lead the way.
Kayla Pecko scored 15 points including a 10-14 performance from the charity stripe to lead
Forest City while Sophia Lombardi added 10 and Zaveri finished with eight. Madi Casselbury
had 13 points to lead Elk Lake.
Meanwhile in New Milford Addison Kilmer continued her big December, pouring in 40 points as the Mountain View overwhelmed Blue Ridge for a 67-32 opening night win.
Kilmer had 13 of her points in the opening quarter and Aubrey Sanders drained a pair of threes
as the Lady Eagles opened with a 27-2 advantage.
