Joshua M. Peters, “the Golden Child,” 37, of Hallstead, PA journeyed into eternal rest on January 1, 2026 and was reunited with his brother and best friend, John “Jay” Whittenberg, Jr.; with his fathers, John Whittenberg, Sr. and John Peters, who all preceded him in death.
Josh leaves behind the love of his life and mother of three children, Abigail Rounds; his children, Jakob, WayLynn, Rebel, and “98” Camri; his mother, Virginia Whittenberg; siblings, Bobby (Deb) Tompkins, Davey (Shar) Tompkins, Amy Tompkins, Johnny Peters, and Jamie Peters; step sisters, Charity (Andrew) Trumbore, Ivy Rubin, and Christina Bartlow; step brothers, Jesse Tompkins and Dustin Tompkins; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins; and a multitude of friends.
Josh attended Montrose School District and entered the workforce. He worked for John Cook, installing fencing and landscaping. Josh looked at John as a role model and was inspired by how he lived and worked. In recent years, he was employed with Cook’s Tree Service. Josh was excellent with ATVs, go karts, and building barricades to prevent accidents with the electric fence. He had a great sense of humor and enjoyed playing pranks on his family and friends, and sometimes a random sobriety test on strangers. He helped rebuild the Brackney Inn following their fires and enjoyed the friendships he gained from his time there and considered it his Second Home. Josh was known as the overprotective uncle with strict standards. His greatest joy in his life was the birth of his son and becoming a father, and secondly the births of his three beautiful daughters. Josh had a heart of gold and would help those in need. He was deeply loved and is already dearly missed.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2026 at the Tuttle-Yeisley Funeral Home, Inc. A Celebration of His Life will be held in the spring. Should friends so desire, memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Friends of Salt Springs Park, 2305 Salt Springs Road, Montrose, PA 18801 and go visit the Park and hike in his memory.
