Lady Warriors threepeat, Kilmer, Gelinger reopen league with big nights

Elk Lake used a fourth quarter rally to defeat Montrose in the annual Denise Reddon-Jill
Hoffman Memorial basketball tournament and Mountain View’s Addison Kilmer quietly poured in
45 points and Blue Ridge’s Abi Gelinger had 34 in the resumption of Lackawanna League play
to highlight the girls’ basketball action.
The Lady Warriors took advantage of a change of momentum and roared back in the final quarter to capture their third straight Reddon-Hoffman Memorial Christmas Tournament 41-40
over Montrose.
The Lady Meteors led 37-31 at the end of the third quarter and held the ball for the final shot of
the quarter, but Elk Lake intercepted a pass and used the stalemate as fodder to fuel a
comeback for a 41-40 win in the tournament championship.
Sadie Jones and Libby Bush combined for 11 points as Montrose led 18-12 after the first
quarter. The Lady Meteors extended the lead to 27-18 at half as four Lady Meteors scored in
the quarter.
Kylie Shingler scored seven points as Elk Lake outscored Montrose 13-10 and seized the
momentum.
In the final quarter the Lady Warriors stifled the Lady Meteor offense holding Montrose to a lone
Molly Weller three-pointer and four different Elk Lake players entered the scoring column.
Shingler and tournament MVP Madi Casselbury each finished with 15 points to pace Elk Lake.
Shingler was also named to the all-tournament team joining Montrose’s Jones, Blue Ridge’s Abi
Gelinger and Susquehanna’s Madyson Beach. Jones led Montrose with 17 points.
In the consolation game, Blue Ridge held Susquehanna to one field goal in the opening
quarter and rolled to a 62-22 win over the Lady Sabers.
Gelinger had 23 points to lead the Lady Raiders while Melody Bloomer added 12 and Lyndee
Barbour finished with 11 points. Madyson Beach led Susquehanna with nine points.
In the semifinals Elk Lake held Blue Ridge to single digits three of the four quarters and edged
the Lady Raiders 44-33 to earn the trip to the championship game. Casselbury had 18 points including a 10-12 performance from the line to lead the Lady Warriors. Shingler added 11. Gelinger led all scorers with 27 points. Montrose earned their trip by out-scoring Susquehanna 31-12 in the first half and rolled to a 50-18 win.
Jones led the way with 19 points and McKenna Kublo added 10. Esther Davis had six points to
lead Susquehanna.

Honesdale held Forest City scoreless in the second quarter to break open their semifinal game
of the Honesdale Jaycees Tournament.
Forest City trailed 15-10 after the first quarter and added to 10 more to take a 25-10 lead into
the locker room. Claire Lombardi led Forest City with eight points.
The Lady Foresters opened with 13 points in the consolation game against Western Wayne, but
managed just 15 more points the entire game as Western Wayne defeated Forest City 43-28.
Aundrea Pevec and Sophia Lombardi each scored nine points to lead the Lady Foresters.
In the resumption of Lackawanna League play Mountain View shook off a stalled second quarter
and the dominant play of Addison Kilmer to roll to a 58-29 victory over Susquehanna.
Kilmer finished a steal within a quadruple-double scoring 45 points, snaring 13 rebounds,
blocking 10 shots and collecting nine steals.
The Lady Eagles led 14-6 after the first quarter but their offense stalled as Susquehanna cut the
lead to 16-12. But a 11-5 run to end the half returned the momentum and they held
Susquehanna to just four points after intermission.
Kilmer got her points in a variety of ways – connecting on five field goals beyond the arc and
scoring in transition and in the post. She now has 277 points on the season. Aubrey Sanders
had eight assists for the Lady Eagles. Cassie Cottrell led Susquehanna with 10 points.
Elk Lake held Carbondale to a lone field goal each of the first three quarters and cruised to a
48-17 win.

Six different Lady Warriors scored in the opening quarter as they built a 17-4 lead. Kendyl
Weisgold scored a career-high 11 points to pace Elk Lake. Madi Casselbury added eight points.
Montrose more than doubled up Forest City in the first half on its way to a convincing 53-29 win.
Sadie Jones and McKenna Kublo combined for 17 of the Lady Meteors 33 points in the first half.
Jones finished with 19 points to lead the way while Kublo had 12 and Molly Weller added 10.
Sophia Lombardi paced the Lady Foresters with nine.
Blue Ridge broke the game open with a 24-4 advantage over Lackawanna Trail in the second
quarter and pulled away for a 64-34 win.
Abi Gelinger finished with 34 points and was joined in double figures by Lyndee Barbour who
finished with 13 and Melody Bloomer who added 10.
