Warriors keep rolling, Warnero notches 200th win

Elk Lake doubled up Carbondale in the first half and delivered Coach John Warnero his 200th career coaching victory with a 70-53 win on Saturday morning (Jan. 24).
The game moved up two days due to the forecasted snowstorm on Monday found the Warriors jumping out to a 20-5 lead after the first quarter and expanding that to 35-13 before halftime.

In the third quarter both teams scored 14 points and Carbondale won the final stanza 26-21. Chase Pond led the balanced Warrior attack with 19 points with 10 of those coming from the free throw line. Brayden Miller added 13 points and Parker Upright finished with 12 including nine points from behind the arc. Connor Stephens added nine points.
This is Warnero’s second stint at the helm of the Warriors having coached Elk Lake from 2006-2016 and then taking over again last season.
Elk Lake opened the second half of the Lackawanna League Division III schedule with a 59-21 win over Forest City.
The Warriors got off to a slow start scoring just eight points in each of the first two quarters to take a 16-7 lead into the locker room. Elk Lake got rolling after intermission scoring 43 second half points and holding the Foresters to 14.
Pond again led the way with 26 points going 4-4 from the charity stripe and connecting on four field goals from deep. John Heitsman added 16 points for the Warriors. Jacob Woodbridge and Jaxon Owens each had seven points to lead Forest City.

Blue Ridge used an early third quarter surge to roll past Mountain View 63-38 in the second half opener for both teams.
Leading 21-15 at intermission, Blue Ridge scored the first nine points of the third quarter and outscored the Eagles 23-9 to take control of the game. Paxton Pingarelli led the balanced Raider attack with 15 points while Landon Bishop and Will Hobart each added 11 and Brendan Marvin finished with nine points. Jordan Jagger led the
Eagles with 12 points while Hudson Bain and Nick Beach each finished with eight. Susquehanna outscored Montrose 71-41 over the final three quarters to roll to a 85-51 win over the Meteors.
Leading 14-10 after one quarter the Sabers outscored the Meteors 25-12 to seize control of the game. After halftime Susquehanna pushed the lead to over 20 with a 20-16 advantage in the third quarter. Mason Keyes led the Saber charge with 29 points including 15 from behind the arc. Griffin Fisk added 20 points and Chris Serra finished with 12. Jai Herman led Montrose with 18 points and Jude Adams added nine.
Elk Lake held Montrose to four first-half field goals to build a 20-point lead by halftime and cruised to a 54-38 win over their Meteor rivals. Chase Pond scored 15 of the Warrior 17 points in the opening quarter as Elk Lake opened a 17-7 lead. He added six more in the second quarter while Parker Upright added a pair of threes and John Heitsman chipped in with five points as the lead grew to 34-10 at intermission. Pond finished with 31 points to lead the Warriors while Heitsman finished with nine. Jai Herman’s 16 points led Montrose.
Susquehanna doubled up rival Blue Ridge in the third quarter 16-8 to pull away and beat the Raiders 71-60. Trailing 35-34 at halftime, Susquehanna was led by Griffin Fisk who scored 13 points in the second half to lead the Saber surge.
Fisk finished with a game-high 22 points while Mason Keyes added 17 and Preston Wolf chipped in with nine points. Paxton Pingarelli led the Raiders with 17 points while Brendan Marvin finished with 11 points and Travis Rutter added nine.
Mountain View outscored host Carbondale 23-14 in the second half to erase a halftime deficit and defeat the Chargers 42-35. Hudson Bain led the Eagles with 16 points while Jordan Jagger scored eight of his 10 points in the second half to lead the comeback.
Lackawanna Trail put up 53 points in the first half and rolled to a 68-28 win over Forest City. Jacob Woodbridge and Jaxon Owens each had eight points to lead the Foresters who remain winless on the season.
Nativity BVM’s Trey Keating outscored Susquehanna 16-4 in the second quarter to erase a four-point deficit and answered any Saber charge in the second half for a 64-54 non-league win.
Keating scored a game-high 42 points to lead the Green Wave. Griffin Fisk scored his team-high 22 points in the second half while Mason Keyes added 15 points and Hudson Stengel chipped in with eight.
