Abington Heights snares pair from Elk Lake swim

Abington Heights swept all but two events in defeating both the boys’ and girls’ swim teams at
Elk Lake in their Lackawanna League matchup on Jan. 20. The Lady Comets won all but one event in defeating the Lady Warriors 98-67.
The Lady Warriors’ 200-yard medley relay team of Brynn Warriner, Avery Kerr, Chelsea Grosvenor and Alayna Stang avoided the sweep, winning in a time of 2:05.29. Taylor States, Alex Perez, Lydia Howell, and Trinity Bell were third with a time of 2:32.45.
Elk Lake earned four fourth place finishes in individual events, led by Stang who garnered two.
Stang was second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:21.22 and finished second in the
500-yard freestyle event with a time of 6:25.97. Teammate Allison Long was third with a time of 6:44.5.
Warriner finished second in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.50 while Mckenna
Puterbaugh finished second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:16.68. Nora Kaetzel was third with a time of 1:34.92.
States finished second in the one-meter dive with a score of 154.50.
Kaetzel also added a third-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle (1:14.08) and Avery Kerr added a pair of third-place finishes in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:25.22) and 200-yard individual medley (2:51.28).
Elk Lake also had two second-place finishes in the relays as Kerr, Perez, Puterbaugh and Long
were second in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:02.74. States, Kaetzel, Howell and
Bell were third (2:23.78). In the 400-yard freestyle relay, Long, Perez, Puterbaugh and Stang finished second (4:37.9).
The Abington Heights boys defeated Elk Lake 138-33 also claiming all but one event. For the Warriors, Isiah Jones provided the highlights winning the 200-yard freestyle in a time of
1:59.65 and finishing second in the 100-yard freestyle race with a time of 52.98.
Jones was also part of two third-place relay teams. In the 200-yard freestyle relay he joined
Isaac Dilmore, Nico Christian and Alan Perez (1:44.57). In the 400-yard freestyle relay he, Dilmore, and Perez were joined by Malachi Baier (4:07.42).
Perez and Baier also earned a third-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay teaming with
Blaize Ball and Matt Buffington for a time of 2:12.78. Buffington also had a third-place finish in the 100-yard butterfly event (1:15.72) and Julian Bernard was third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:43.65).
