Kilmer makes history, Lady Eagles remain on perch

The bench rose. The crowd gathered in Susquehanna’s high school gym sucked in their breath.
And then it exploded in applause as the arching jumpshot from Mountain View’s Addison Kilmer
touched down in the net. With her third triple of the night Kilmer accomplished what no other Susquehanna County female basketball player had done – crack the 2,000 point milestone.
The Senior Lady Eagle entered the game 27 points shy of the feat and quickly went to work
scoring 14 points in the first quarter as Mountain View built a 20-7 lead. She added 10 more in second as the Lady Eagle lead ballooned to 40-12 at intermission.
With the countdown marked on the wall, Kilmer missed a couple of early shots and went 1-2
from the line before Aubrey Sanders found Kilmer on the left wing and delivered the milestone
assist.

Kilmer finished the evening with 38 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks as Mountain View defeated Susquehanna 61-29. She’s the fifth county basketball player to reach the 2,000 point
plateau joining Elk Lake’s Jim Wallace and Bob Stevenson, and Forest City’s Paul Prezelski and
Jason Maile. Sanders added 15 points along with five steals and five assists for the Lady Eagles.
Susquehanna was led by Kiera Burke and Esther Davis who each finished with eight points.
Davis also had nine rebounds. Mountain View remained perfect in league play with a 63-44 win at Lackawanna Trail.
Kilmer had 10 of her game-high 31 points in the first half and Sanders added eight as the Lady Eagles took a 29-17 lead into intermission.

Trail came out inspired in the second half cutting the lead to single digits at one point in the third quarter until Kilmer added five more points to end the quarter and Mountain View led 42-31
heading into the final stanza.
Kilmer added 11 more in the fourth and Emily Trichilo scored seven and the Lady Eagles were
8-9 from the free throw line for the final margin. Kilmer finished with 31 points and nine rebounds while Trichilo added 13 points and eight assists. Sanders also reached double figures with 12 points and had nine assists and Emma Thatcher added seven.

Montrose kept pace with Mountain View in the Lackawanna League Division III standings with a
pair of double-digit victories.
First, the Lady Meteors erupted for 20 points in the first quarter to roll to a 49-22 win over Forest City. Sadie Jones had nine points in the opening quarter and 15 in the first half while the Montrose defense held the Lady Foresters to six points for a 29-6 lead at intermission. Jones finished with 21 points and Molly Weller added 14 to lead the Lady Meteors. Michaela Zaveri led Forest City with seven points.
Vivy Nabywaniec scored 16 points and Montrose held Carbondale to a lone field goal in the first
half to thrash the Lady Chargers 57-18. Jones added 13 points to push her career total to 951 and Ally Legg added eight. Montrose was scheduled to travel to Blue Ridge Tuesday before hosting Mountain View on Friday in a game that could decide the Division III race.
Elk Lake also kept pace with a pair of back-to-back wins to up its Division III record to 7-3. The Lady Warriors defeated a determined Blue Ridge squad 46-42 at home as Madi Casselbury scored 14 points including a perfect 4-4 from the line in the fourth quarter.
Celeste Clark scored six of her nine points in the final quarter as Elk Lake outscored the Lady
Raiders 15-13 for the final margin. Piper Keeney added 12 points for the Lady Warriors.
Abi Gelinger led Blue Ridge with 21 points and Lyndee Barbour added nine.
The next day, the Lady Warriors traveled to Carbondale for a make up with the Chargerettes
pushed back due to the inclement weather.
Elk Lake got warmed up in the first quarter taking a 11-10 lead before outscoring Carbondale
44-16 over the next two quarters to roll to a 57-29 victory.
Casselbury again led the way with 23 points including nine in the second quarter while Kendyl
Weisgold and Lacy Ayotte each added 10 points.
Blue Ridge exploded for 25 points in the fourth quarter to rally past Lackawanna Trail 61-50.
The Lady Raiders trailed 37-36 heading into the fourth quarter. They were again led by Abi
Gelinger, who recorded a double-double with 34 points and 10 rebounds. Addison Welch added
12 points and Lyndee Barbour finished with nine for the Lady Raiders.
Trailing 21-20 at halftime Forest City erupted for 25 points in the third quarter to pull away from
Susquehanna for a 55-38 win on the road.
Michaela Zaveri had 11 points in the pivotal third quarter and led the Lady Foresters with 22
points including a 7-7 effort from the charity stripe. Kayla Pecko canned five three-pointers and
finished with 20 points for Forest City.
Madison Beach had 14 points to lead Susquehanna and Cassie Cottrell added eight points.
