Staff Reports
A committed defensive strategy and a fourth quarter comeback enabled Montrose to defeat
Mountain View and knot the standings heading into the final week of the regular season.
Montrose held Mountain View scoring sensation Addison Kilmer to six points and Sadie Jones
converted a late layup in a 36-35 victory in front of a packed house at Montrose Area High
School.

The Lady Meteors double-teamed Kilmer throughout the night. However, Mountain View led
35-34 with 27.8 second left when the Lady Eagles’ Aubrey Sanders went to the line for two free
throws. When her second attempt caromed toward the Montrose student section, Vivian
Nabywaniec corralled the loose ball spun away from a bevy of Lady Eagle defenders, took one dribble and passed ahead to Jones who converted the layup to send the Montrose faithful into a frenzy. Mountain View raced down the court but committed a turnover to give Montrose back possession.

Montrose was able to advance the ball up the court where Nabywaniec was fouled after
collecting a rebound. Her second free throw bounced off the rim and went out of bounds in front
of the Montrose bench giving Mountain one last attempt with 2.6 seconds, but Kilmer’s
desperation shot fading from the short corner was off and Montrose had the win and to even
their record with Mountain View atop the Lackawanna League Division III standings.
Jones led Montrose with 12 points while Carly Frey added seven and Myckenna Kublo hit a pair
of three pointers for six points. Emma Thatcher led Mountain View with 12 points while Aubrey
Sanders and Emily Trichilo also had six each and Reagan Bishop-Russo had five.

If the teams remain tied after Thursday night’s season finale they will square off for one-game
playoff at a site and time to be determined.
