MONTROSE — A new hub for ladies that enjoy fair-priced clothing and bags is coming to South Montrose on March 8. Thrifty Hippie Thrift and Consignment is a new shop specifically for women’s and girls’ clothing opening up next to another new business, Polished by Cam, in the South Montrose feed store complex.
“This is a fun thing on the side that I always just did online through Posh Market, eBay, and stuff like that,” said MaKayla Stimac, owner of Thrifty Hippie. “And I always had a bigger dream.”

At the grand opening on March 8, the first 50 customers will get VIP cards for an additional 10% in favor of them in consignment deals. They also get 10% off on all purchases for the next year, Stimac said.
Stimac, 33, lives in Tunkhannock. Originally from Kansas City, Stimac said she has lived all along the West Coast but felt drawn to Montrose and fell in love with Pennsylvania when she met her husband. After having been in the reselling realm for about five years, her dreams of having her own curated store are coming true.
“I’m so excited, because I signed up for the Scranton Big Vintage and Flea Market,” Stimac said.
The love for good clothing at a fair price comes from years of building an eye for finds, through both of her parents but especially her mother, she said.
“When I was younger, I wanted all the cute name brand stuff,” Stimac said. “And she’s like, ‘sure, OK, But you’re not going to the store to get it. And if you are, you’re looking at the clearance racks.’ And so we’d go to the consignment stores and thrift stores, and we bonded over that. Even my dad, not so much like thrifting, but he buys stuff from auctions. They taught me to appreciate the deal on the discount. I found a love for it super duper young.”

All brands are verified through Stimac using verifying software through apps like Mercari, though Stimac has a pretty good eye for zipper and seam abnormalities.
Inches away from Stimac’s space is Greenwood’s business, a nail salon that opened in the beginning of February.
Camryn Greenwood, 18, is a 2025 graduate of Elk Lake High School and received her nail license after completing cosmetology class hours through the Susquehanna County Career & Technology Center (SCCTC).
“I wanted to do my own thing and have my own space, so I found this place and there was a big space back here,” Greenwood said. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do, and I knew that MaKayla had lots of things to sell, and that she would benefit from a bigger space. So, I was like, why don’t we do it? And I love to decorate, I love bags, and I love everything about it, too.”
Greenwood said she has had a lifelong close relationship with family friends, Guy Parish and Karen Parish, owners of the feed store complex. They helped her to open her business by offering her a space in the building.
Stimac said she met Greenwood when she came to Stimac’s job at Head to Toe Salon & Spa in Tunkhannock. The two struck up a friendship. Stimac had begun bringing some items to the salon in a little pop-up shop, and still has items there now.
Some of the bags in the current stock range from $30 to over $100, but always, items are less than original price. “I’m not going to sell something for more just because. It’s not about that,” Stimac said. For her, it’s about helping other women and girls feel beautiful just like at the hair salon, because doing that is her true calling.
