Construction progresses at public safety facility

Susquehanna County’s new public safety facility remains on track for completion in late September.

County commissioners reported at the July 14 meeting that multiple contractors are currently working at the site handling window and door installations, spackling and painting, and electronics installation.

The commissioners approved several change orders for the construction project:

*exterior lighting, panel and transformers, including fire alarm revisions at a cost of $2,776.44;

*installation of coolers, evaporators and additional required equipment for the coroner’s office, at a cost of $13,750.78, paid with Act 13 funds.

The purchase of a printer/copier/scanner for the public safety center work area was approved at a cost of $6,307, utilizing COSTARS pricing and paid with Act 13 funds. There is a quarterly service cost of $.0085 per page.

The commissioners also approve the purchase of six, InFocus JTouch all-in-one computers for the commissioners department, 911, emergency management and New Milford Courts, at a cost of $25,700 using COSTARS pricing and paid with Act 13 funds. The purchase includes hardware, software, installation and training.

A data sharing agreement with the United State Postal Service, for deliverable address data for NexGen 911 and addressing use, was approved.

The commissioners also approved several agreements between the Department of Children and Youth and service providers, effective July 1 through June 30, 2022.

In personnel matters, the commissioners accepted, with regret, the resignation/retirement of Rolly Brink from the position of Prison Maintenance/Electrical/HVAC Technician, effective Oct. 31.

Bids opened at the July 23 meeting for bridge and paving projects were awarded as follows:

The Bridge 4 Overlay Project was awarded to Minichi Inc., for $99,000; and the Pavement Improvements Project was awarded to Wayco Inc. for $388,486.

The salary board convened to approve the creation of a full-time Adult Probation Officer/Drug Court position, paying $18 per hour.

The board also set the insurance contribution rate at 10 percent for all elected officials and county employees, effective Aug. 1, to offset the changes in the copay rates.
