Eagles claim division, playoffs set

For the second time in three years, the Mountain View boys’ soccer team earned the right to call
themselves league champions. The Eagles shut out Mid Valley 3-0 to wrap up the Lackawanna League Division II Boys’ soccer title, finishing with an 11-1 record on Oct. 15.
Mountain View took the lead just under 11 minutes into the game as Joel Tigue found the back
of the net. Ben Millard added another goal off an assist from Blake Norton to give the Eagles a
2-0 halftime lead. Norton converted a penalty kick late in the second half for the final score. Goalkeeper Nick Beach had nine saves to preserve the shutout.
The Eagles also solidified the top spot in the upcoming District II Class A playoffs. Mountain
View will begin their quest for District Gold on Friday, October 24 hosting Gregory the Great.
Carbondale kept Forest City winless with a 2-1 win over the Foresters. Jusihah Jenkins scored the lone Forester goal off an assist from Owen Lesjack. Goalkeeper Lucas Wisekal had three saves.
Blue Ridge capped their regular season falling to Riverside 4-2 which clinched the Division III
title for the Vikings. Andrew Stallings scored during the first half while Riley Phillips added a goal in the second half. Elk Lake shut out Carbondale 5-0 behind two goals from both Cohen Orlandini and Caleb Brown. Henry Zuniga added the other goal and had an assist, while Joe Montoya had two assists and Jayden Hitchcock assisted on another. Goalkeeper Gage Shupp had three saves.
Earlier in the week, Elk Lake and Montrose played to a scoreless tie. While Mountain View will open hosting Wyoming Seminary, Montrose will be the first team to begin playoffs. The Meteors travel to Scranton Prep tonight to take on the Cavaliers in the District II Class 2A playoffs.
Elk Lake and Blue Ridge will join Mountain View in the Class A playoffs with both teams hitting
the road to Wilkes-Barre on Friday. The Warriors enter as the seven seed and will travel to Wyoming Seminary while the Raiders square off against Holy Redeemer.
