In the final week of the Lackawanna League Cross Country season, constants emerged and
surprises peaked out through the grind in the final cluster meets before the District II championships.
Elk Lake finished the regular season unscathed as the Warriors swept the top three spots and defeated Scranton Prep (19-36) and Holy Cross (16-49) to finish the season 22-0. Kendel Jones claimed first place in 15:41.1 and was followed by teammates Cody Adams and Parker Upright. Trever Upright was sixth and Whalen Kinney finished 12th to join their teammates in the top 15.
Paxton Pingarelli finished fourth to lead the Raiders to 23-32 win over Holy Cross
The duo of Nico Christian and Jamison Myers finished ninth and tenth respectively as the Meteors closed out the season with a 20-35 win over Holy Cross.
Meanwhile at McDade Park, Maxx Kelly finished third as Susquehanna picked up a pair of wins
over West Scranton (25-31) and Scranton (19-36). Evan Beamer finished fifth while Matt Schell was right behind at seventh and Jeff Benson was tenth to put three more Sabers in the top 15.
Mountain View also picked up wins over West Scranton (27-28) and Scranton (21-36) despite
missing top runner Sean Larkin. Trey Hummel and Collin Pliska carried the load for the Eagles
finishing 12th and 13th respectively.
In the girls’ races, there was a surprise at Elk Lake as Montrose Senior Avery Kerr made a huge push and captured the race in 20:01.1 as the Lady Meteors defeated Holy Cross 20-20 and nipped Scranton Prep 29-30. Addison Stephens finished sixth and Ava Rebello was sixth to join Kerr in the top 15.
Despite not finishing on top among the local runners for the first time this season Elk Lake’s Kendyl Weisgold still finished strong at second place and led the Lady Warriors to wins over Holy Cross (17-40) and Prep (15-40) to finish the season 20-1. Madison Kerr was right behind Weisgold finishing third while the duo was joined in the top 15 by Kylee Pond who placed sixth and Faith Tracy and Azlyn Gazillo who finished eighth and ninth respectively.
At McDade, Mountain View picked up three wins as all five scoring runners finished in the top 15. Corinne Flynn led the way with a third place finish as the Lady Eagles defeated West Scranton (15-40), Scranton (23-32), and Mid Valley (25-30).
Audrey Anderson was fifth while Amber Price, Anya Curtis and Emma Radford claimed spots
nine through 11, as Mountain View had their complete lineup for the first time all season.
Susquehanna picked up a win over West Scranton 15-21 thanks to Kiera Burke’s winning time
of 20:59.22.
