MONTROSE — Deanne Field was searching for her true purpose in life – something she truly loved to do and had a passion for. She had always wanted a bridal and dress boutique in Montrose. That idea rose to the top of her list. Then she realized it was not the right
time, as “The Dress” and its previous owner were already fulfilling this need in Montrose and for the surrounding area.
“Looking back, I had been praying about what path I was supposed to go and what direction. I finally found the job that I feel I was truly meant to do,” Field said. “I love it when girls come in and they feel confident, beautiful, and proud. The only thing I ever want for my customers is for them to feel good in what they’re wearing.”
In August of 2022, the puzzle pieces to her dream started falling into place. Over time, three different people had owned The Dress in Montrose. A listing appeared on Facebook to purchase The Dress, the business only, located near the Dollar General Store on South Main Street. As soon as Field saw the business, she knew that she was supposed to purchase it, making Field the fourth owner. The process moved quickly, and a decision was made to retain the name “The Dress” as a bridal and dress boutique.
In March 2025, The Dress relocated to 212 Church Street, in the heart of Montrose. Interestingly, it is the same building that Field’s grandfather, Sam Lewis, owned for years, where he operated an appliance store, an electrician’s business, and repaired various items. He was a man well-known and well-loved.
The Boutique offers dresses for a variety of occasions, such as bridal, prom, homecoming, formal wear, mother of the bride, mother of the groom, bridesmaids, and flower girls. The wide range of services helps the customer find the perfect attire. Additionally, a selection of veils, headpieces, and jewelry is available to complement the look, making it a one-stop destination for all formal wear needs.
When a bride is searching for the perfect gown, appointments are required for bridal dress shopping. Dedicated consultants at The Dress provide personalized, one-on-one attention to each bride, ensuring a tailored and stress-free experience. With a two-hour private session area, you can browse the curated selection of 150 bridal gowns and various accessories in a private and comfortable setting. The session can accommodate up to five guests. A $50 non-refundable deposit will be applied as an appointment fee credit towards the bride’s dream dress.
Through working with different vendors, The Dress offers a wide range of designs and styles for the bridal and prom dresses. The size range is from 00 to 30, so every customer can find the perfect fit.
“I truly do love what I do so much,” Field said. “My favorite thing about the last three years is all the relationships I’ve built, all the friendships I’ve made that I would not have had if it weren’t for this business.”
