Action heats up on hardwood for boys’ basketball

Each of the local boys’ basketball teams got to the court despite the early season snowstorm in the second full week of action.
Blue Ridge exploded for 25 points in the second quarter and held off a Wyoming Seminary rally to defeat the Blue Knights 62-56. Landon Bishop connected seven times from behind the arc to lead the Raiders with 21 points and Paxton Pingarelli added 16. The Raiders jumped out to a 18-4 lead on host Sayre to cruise to a 74-43 non-league victory. Pingarelli led the way with 28 points for Blue Ridge and Bishop was hot from deep again nailing six long-range bombs for 18 points. Brendan Marvin added 12 points and Wil Hobart chipped in with eight.
Susquehanna extended a six-point halftime lead in the third quarter with 21 points to pull away in a 64-47 win over East Stroudsburg Notre Dame in a game held at Marywood University.
Griffin Fisk led the Sabers with 23 points including a 11-17 effort at the free throw line while Mason Keyes added 13 and Seniors Linden Baker and Chris Serra each had a dozen points.
Elk Lake held visiting Wyoming Seminary to 14 first-half points as the Warriors built a double digit lead on its way to a 58-43 preseason victory. Chase Pond led the balanced Warrior attack with 14 points while Brayden Miller added 13 and John Heitsman had 12.
Tunkhannock extended their 28-26 halftime lead in the third quarter and then held off an Elk Lake rally to clip the Warriors 59-55. Heitsman led the Warriors with 17 points while Kendel Jones added 12 and Miller finished with 11.
Montrose faced off against opponents from two different districts. Visiting Old Forge had 47 points in the first half as they cruised to a 69-40 win over the Meteors. Jai Herman paced the Meteors with 11 points and Jude Adams added eight.
Northeast Bradford erased a four-point first quarter deficit and outscored Montrose each of the final three quarters to claim a 55-46 win over the visiting Meteors. Herman led the Meteors with 17 points and Sawyer Brown added 13.
Western Wayne rallied from a 10-point halftime deficit and held Forest City to 13 second-half points to pick up a 47-38 win over the Foresters.
Jayden Carter paced the Foresters with 15 points while Enazer Jenkins added eight.
Mountain View ripped off 47 second half points to rally past Western Wayne for a 64-53 win.
Jordan Jagger connected on 13 of 16 free throws and finished with 24 points to lead the Eagles.
Wyatt Thatcher connected on five three-pointers for 19 points while Gavin Travis scored 13 points in his first varsity start for the Eagles.
