Warriors, Sabers set for showdown

Two big wins and a stunning loss set the table for a big night in local boys’ basketball. Susquehanna picked up two wins, while Elk Lake fell from the ranks of the unbeaten to put both
teams at 11-1 with two games remaining, including a game between the two programs Monday
night at Susquehanna high school that may determine the Division III title.
Griffin Fisk knocked down six three-pointers and Susquehanna outscored Carbondale 17-7 in
the third quarter to pull away for a 71-59 victory and keep the Sabers tied with Elk Lake at the
top of the Lackawanna League Division III standings.
Leading 35-33 at the half, Susquehanna pushed the lead to 12 after halftime. Fisk finished with
31 points to lead the Sabers while Linden Baker added 11 and Jaxson Downton contributed 10.
The Sabers were able to climb to the top of the standings when Lackawanna Trail exploded for
41 points in the first half to hand Elk Lake their first league loss of the season 61-40.
Brayden Miller had 16 points to lead the Warriors and John Heitsman added 10.
The two teams squared off Monday, February 9 in Susquehanna.
Jordan Jagger scored six points in overtime and Mountain View edged Montrose 65-62.
Sawyer Brown put the Meteors up with the first field goal of the extra session 58-56, but Aiden
McCloskey answered with a three from the corner to put the Eagles up for good.
Hudson Bain scored 26 points to lead Mountain View while Jagger finished with 22 and
McCloskey added 12.
Brown led the Meteors with 16 points while Jude Adams finished with 11 and Sawyer Aukema
and Jai Herman each added nine points. Blue Ridge opened a 16 point lead in the first quarter and never looked back in a 89-63 win over Forest City.
The Raiders led 22-6 after the first quarter and were led by Wil Hobart who finished with 22
points and was joined in double figures by Paxton Pingarelli who had 16, Landon Bishop had
five three-pointers to finish with 15, Brendan Marvin added 12 and Travis Rutter added 10.
Earlier in the week Susquehanna outscored Lackawanna Trail 26-14 over the middle quarters to
pull away with a 57-46 win.
Griffin Fisk paced the Sabers with 25 points and Mason Keyes added 11.
John Heitsman scored 12 points and Elk Lake outscored Mountain View 21-9 after
intermission to roll to a 59-43 win.
Knotted at 24-24 at the half, Heitsman took over in the third quarter in a myriad of ways,
knocking down a jumper and attacking the rim to give the Warriors a 45-33 lead.
Heitsman finished with 34 points while Brayden Miller and Parker Upright each finished with
nine. Jordan Jagger had 15 to pace the Eagles while Hudson Bain finished with 12 and Josh
Miller added eight.
Montrose outscored Blue Ridge 18-7 in the second quarter to overcome a seven-point deficit
and cruised to a 69-56 win.
Sawyer Brown led the Meteors with 21 points and Jai Herman finished with 19. Evan McComb
added nine points. Paxton Pingarelli had 21 to lead the Raiders and Brendan Marvin added 11.
