Les Richards Championships
Elk Lake girls’ swim team set new standards and collected several medals at the Les Richards
Championship swim meet on Feb. 13. Brynn Warriner earned a gold medal in the 50-yard freestyle and added a silver in the 100-yard freestyle. She established new program records in each event, winning the 50 free in 24.92 seconds and earning a time of 54.42 in the 100 free.
Chelsea Grosvenor won a silver medal in the 100-yard backstroke while establishing a new
team record with her time of 1:04.89. She also finished fifth in the 100-yard butterfly event with a time of 1:05.24.
Grosvenor, Alyana Stang, Avery Kerr and Warriner earned a bronze medal in the 200-yard
freestyle relay (1:47.61) and placed fourth in the 400-yard relay (3:59.01). Stang also had a sixth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (6:18.85).
District II Wrestling
Local grapplers will head to Wilkes-Barre Area High school for the District II Wrestling
championships Feb. 20 and 21.
District II Basketball Championships
Area boys’ basketball teams begin their quest for a District II title tonight. In 2A, second-seeded Susquehanna hosts winless Forest City at 6 p.m. while fourth-seeded Blue Ridge hosts Wyoming Seminary at 7 p.m. Sixth-seeded Mountain View travels to Lackawanna Trail for a 6 p.m. start.
In 3A, third-seeded Elk Lake hosts Lakeland at 7 p.m. and seventh-seeded Montrose travels to
Dunmore at 7 p.m. Winners advance to the semifinals to be held Feb. 21.
In girls’ basketball action held Tuesday, defending District II Class 2A champion Mountain View
hosted seventh-seeded Old Forge. Elk Lake as the fourth seed hosted Blue Ridge, while
sixth-seeded Forest City traveled to Holy Cross. Winners will play in the semifinals Friday night.
In Class A, Susquehanna did not qualify for the District II/XI Subregional and will be declared the District II champion as MMI Prep has opted out of the District II playoffs.
