Burglary suspect shot by victim

A Montrose-area man who was shot in the chest Monday by an alleged victim faces burglary, criminal trespass and stalking charges in Susquehanna County.

The woman is not being charged in the incident, state police said on Tuesday.

Shane Hazlett, 34, was removed by police at about12:30 a.m., Monday morning from a residence onFork Hill Rd.,FranklinTwp. Police had been called to respond to a disturbance at the scene.

Hazlett was ordered by police not to return to the residence.

According to police, Hazlett then used the internet social networking site, Facebook, to harass and threaten people at the residence.

He then obtained a ride to the residence and threatened to kill people who were there.

Police said the alleged victims were terrified by Hazlett’s threats and actions and locked themselves inside the home.

Police reported Hazlett used a fire extinguisher to break the door glass and obtained entry to the house.

Once inside, police said Hazlett allegedly punched a man in the face, knocking a tooth out; kicked a woman; and choked another woman.

According to police, Hazlett was then pushed out of the home.

The man continued to make threats and walked to a barn on the property. Police said Hazlett damaged property inside the barn.

According to police, he also attempted to ride an injured horse but was bucked off.

A woman from the home confronted Hazlett in the barn and ordered him to leave the property.

He continued to hold the horse lead and charged at the woman.

Police said the woman then fired her weapon, striking Hazlett in the chest area and stopping the charge.

The woman and a man at the residence then started to provide emergency care for Hazlett until help arrived.

Hazlett was transported toWilsonMemorialHospitalinJohnson City,N.Y., for treatment and released into the custody of Johnson City Police on thePennsylvaniacharges.

Hazlett has been charged by Tpr. John Oliver with felony counts of burglary, criminal trespass and stalking. He also faces misdemeanor counts of terroristic threats, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person and harassment.

As of press time, Hazlett had not yet been arraigned on the charges. He is being held in theBroomeCountyjail awaiting extradition toPennsylvania.

Additional charges were filed Tuesday by state police after Hazlett allegedly made additional threats to the victims upon his release from the hospital.
