Like Linus of the Peanuts comic strip, there are still those who can appreciate a sincere pumpkin patch. For those who’d like to pick their own pumpkin from a farm field, there is still one available to the public in Susquehanna County.
Zembrzycki’s Farm in Herrick Center is open Friday nights, Saturdays and Sundays until the end of the month, and features an 8-acre corn maze in the shape of a farmer on a tractor as well as pumpkin picking and a petting zoo.
Brian Zembrzycki said that cornstalks, pumpkins, hay bales, gourds, and other items are available for purchase at the farmstand, and campfires are available, with haybale seating, for those who want to stay past dark and roast hot dogs or marshmallows. There is a $15 fee for campfires.
The Zembryzyckis have about 15 acres planted with pumpkins. They operate a dairy farm, and have expanded their autumn offerings to include a challenge maze and twilight walks with flashlights.
The corn maze is a dent corn field with stalks about ten feet high. A mower with a GPS system is used to cut the design into the corn, Zembrzycki said.
The cost is $5 per person for the maze, and children under two are free. This year, pumpkins are plentiful, so they are giving away a free pumpkin to every family or group that comes. Group rates are available for parties of 10 or more.
