Susquehanna’s Mayor Michael Matis had the honor of lighting the borough’s Christmas tree, located in Memorial Park of the Shops Plaza.

Introduced by Susquehanna Community Development Association Chairman Darlene Slocum the Mayor complimented and thanked SCDA members for all they do for the borough. Prior to the tree lighting, members of the American Legion led the pledge of allegiance and Pastor Gary Day of First Baptist Church offered a prayer.

All those attending were invited to the American Legion for refreshments and singing of Christmas carols with the elementary school chorus, under the direction of elementary school music teacher, Michael Wowk. As an added treat, chorus members were able to entice Principal Robert Keyes to join them.

The refreshments served by SCDA members were supplied by members of the Nellie Jane DeWitt BPW and Schneider’s Market.

SCDA members have taken on the responsibility of decoration Main Street for not only Christmas season but all the other seasons of the year. They also plan Home Town Days in July.
