Boys’ basketball results (Dec. 29, 2010)

Blue Ridge

The Blue Ridge boys’ basketball team took a 53-52 victory over Elk Lake on Wednesday night at home in overtime.

Blue Ridge’s Sawyer Dearborn drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to give Blue Ridge an overtime victory over the Warriors.

In the first quarter, Blue Ridge got ahead of the Warriors with a 13-10 run before Elk Lake would go 13-10 over Blue Ridge in the second to see the game tied at 23 apiece at the half.

In the third quarter, Elk Lake surged ahead, outscoring Blue Ridge 13-8, and after Blue Ridge pace the Warriors 17-12 in the fourth the game was tied at 48 at the end of regulation.

Blue Ridge outscored Elk Lake 5-4 in overtime for the win.

Dearborn finished with 26 points and seven rebounds for Blue Ridge while Alex Cardoza added nine points and 10 assists for the Raiders. Dylan Pruitt had eight.

For Elk Lake, Mark Bush scored 21 to pace the Warriors while Rob Heft had 15 and Joe Woolcock dropped in five.

Forest City

Forest City’s boys’ basketball team picked up a 43-34 victory over Western Wayne in the opening game of the Forest City Rotary Tournament on Thursday night.

The Foresters opened up to go 9-4 over the Wildcats in the first quarter, and 13-4 in the second quarter to hold a 22-8 lead at the half.

In the third, Western Wayne paced the Foresters 14-4, however, the Foresters bounced back to go 17-12 over the Wildcats in the fourth and take the win.

Joe Caruso scored 23 points to pace the Foresters while Adam Dix added eight points and Dave Cavalieri had four.

Susquehanna

The Susquehanna Saber boys’ basketball team picked up a 42-40 victory over Forest City at home on Wednesday evening.

Wednesday’s contest started at Forest City went on an 11-7 run over the Sabers in the first period, and after outscoring Susquehanna 13-12 in the second held a 24-19 lead at the half.

However, a 17-9 run by the Sabers in the third was the deciding factor as it pushed Susquehanna to a 36-33 lead going into the fourth.

And despite a 10-9 run by the Foresters in the final minutes, Susquehanna took the victory.

The Sabers were led by Andrzej Tomczyk with 18 points while Taylor Cundey had 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds.

Forest City was led by Joe Caruso with 21 points while Zach Mendoza added 11 in the loss.

Montrose

Montrose’s boys’ basketball team was handed a 37-28 loss from Lackawanna Trail at home on Wednesday evening.

The first quarter saw both teams scored five points before Trail would pace the Meteors 10-9 in the second to hold a 15-14 lead at the break.

In the third quarter, Trail held the Meteors to four points while scoring 11, and then took the win after going 11-10 over Montrose in the fourth.

Montrose was led by Cole Wheaton and Cameron Dean, who each scored seven, while Steve Squires chipped in five.

Mountain View

Mountain View’s boys’ basketball team took a 58-42 win over Family Foundation in the first round of the Forest City Rotary Tournament on Thursday night after it faced a 67-53 loss from Lakeland in a game played at home on Wednesday evening.

On Thursday, The Eagles led the way 16-13 in the first quarter before being outscored 18-13 in the second to trail 31-29 at halftime.

In the second half, the Eagles went on an 18-3 run in the third quarter to take back the lead and finished off Family Foundation 11-8 in the fourth to take the win.

Jon Chipelo and Julian Williams led the way for Mountain View, chipping in 12 points apiece.

Against Lakeland, the Eagles fell behind 18-10 after the first quarter and trailed 32-22 at the half after a 14-12 run by Lakeland in the second.

After halftime, Lakeland widened the gap with a 24-6 run over the Eagles in the third and despite a last-ditch effort by the Eagles in the fourth where they went 25-11 over Lakeland, the Chiefs took the win.

Mountain View was led by Williams and Joel Madas, who each scored 14 for the Eagles.
