Aldrich wins New York amateur boxing championship

Susquehanna senior Kim Aldrich (right) recently won the New York State Amateur Boxing Championship held at Turning Stone Casino, Verona, N.Y., with a TKO victory over Jennifer Woodward of Standing Rock, N.Y.

Susquehanna Community senior Kim Aldrich had success recently in the boxing ring as she won the New York State Amateur Boxing Championship at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, N.Y.

On Feb. 18, she TKO’d  Jennifer Woodward of Standing Rock, N.Y. Woodward’s corner men halted the fight after one round to save their boxer from further punishment.

On Feb. 19, she won the crown by beating Dominique Nelson of Troy, in a lopsided clear-cut victory. Nelson was undefeated to that point and made good account of herself, but Kim’s power punches kept her on the defensive.

In a match at Cortland, N.Y., Central New York MMA Club held on Feb. 12, Aldrich knocked out Amanda Head in 46 seconds in the first round.

A series of body punches and overhand rights left her helpless on the ropes as the referee stepped in to stop the contest.

Kim will next box at Lakeside, on Mar. 26th in the Pennsylvania Golden Gloves. If victorious she would have to win three more bouts to become Pennsylvania State Champion in the 141-pound division.

Kim trains at the Carmen Basilio Boxing club in Windsor, N.Y.
