Auburn Twp. requests lower speed limit

BY PAT FARNELLI

Auburn Township Supervisors decided to send a letter to the state Department of Transportation (PennDOT) requesting the lowering of the speed limit on SR 267 from 55 mph to 45, for safety reasons.

There have been several accidents on that road, supervisors said, not far from the township’s buildings.

The supervisors received letters from Chesapeake Energy regarding the Auburn compressor station, still in the planning stages, and concerning a temporary water line for hydrofracturing of gas wells, and seismic testing along township roads.

The compressor station will be located in a subdivision which was approved for that conditional use in 2010, and its sewer plan was recently approved by the COG.

A GMC township truck was repaired, and the cost was $113 for a new U joint and couplers.

A letter was received from the Geisinger Health Plan, thanking the township in advance for renewing their insurance. They noted that employees’ spouse and family rates went up, but decided to approve staying with the Geisinger plan.

A notification was received from the Department of Environmental Protection for Cabot Oil and Gas for a consumptive use of water permit, granted for up to 3.575 million gallons of water a day, for a gas well in the township.

Civil Engineering Consultants sent a letter notifying the township of  a 5.6 mile natural gas gathering pipeline that will cross SR267 and 2003 and end in Rush Township.

There was a notification of an Anthracite East gathering line that will cross 23 properties across several townships.

DEP sent a notification that the documents are completed for an RCMP gatherings line. There were two permits approved, one for a cross cut of Shannon Hill Road, and one for a driveway permit.

DEP also sent a notification of a mineral production permit granted to Power Stone, a quarry, as well as a permit to run diesel combustion engines there.

Another driveway permit from Cabot for a gas well pad on Overfield Road was received without the necessary signatures, so the supervisors sent it back to the  Cabot office.

The township’s audit was conducted by Berkheimer, and everything was in order.
