For Forest City’s girls’ basketball team, the theme of family has taken on an added meaning with senior Cassie Erdmann serving as a tutor for her freshman sister Carly.

“It’s just been awesome,” Cassie Erdmann said of getting to share the court with her younger sister. “I know Carly’s such a great player. She really has exceeded my expectations as well as everyone else’s. I expected some punch here or there, but

the last few games she’s really stepped it up.

“She’s playing like a varsity player, like a senior. I couldn’t be more proud of her.”

Carly credits her sister for her first-year success.

“I look up to her as such an inspiring role model to me and I feel like with all her experience she’s helped me with my game,” Carly said. “The emotional aspect, she’s made me build a tougher mindset on the court. She’s led me to believe I can’t let my emotions to get best of me and I have to be tougher than the other team.”

Sibling rivalry hasn’t been an issue because each has embraced the chance to play together.

“Sharing those special moments like our first district title in four years, the 1,000 points, it was really special that Carly was able to be on the team with me,” Cassie said. “As much as we drive each other crazy, we’re always there for each other.”
