County contracts with new spill response team

BY STACI WILSON

A new hazardous material response team has been contracted by the county to respond to spills – like the one in Springville Twp. last Wednesday. The move occurred at the March 23 commissioners meeting.

The commissioners signed a contract with Datom Products, Inc., of Dunmore that names the company as the county’s primary spill response contractor and goes into effect on June 1.

Datom is replacing Environmental Products and Services of Vermont, Inc. – the company that currently handles hazardous spills in the county.

Peoples Neighborhood Bank was designated the county depository.

The tax claim bureau was exonerated from collecting delinquent taxes on two parcels.

A six-acre parcel, Crystal Lake Park, was exonerated from by the county assessment office per an order from the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania as the property has no value. All 2011 taxes were exonerated and $1188.93 in 2010 taxes were also exonerated.

A first-ward, Susquehanna Depot property, listed under the name Endless Mountains Community Development Corporation, Inc. was also exonerated from collection. The state Dept. of Community and Economic Development approved a Kaystone Opportunity Expansion Zone tax relief on the parcel for tax year 2010 in the amount of $10,038,43.

A motion to hire Nicholas Demaree, Silver Lake, as a 911 dispatcher trainee, was tabled.

Michele Hinds, Montrose, was hired by Prothonotary Susan Eddleston as a part-time clerk/typist.

A bid for repairs to the roof of the county jail was awarded Freuhan Construction, of Brackney, for $9,800.

April was proclaimed Child Abuse Prevention Month and Environmental Awareness Month in the county.
