Local girls featured in all-star game

A group of Susquehanna County girls’ varsity basketball players have been selected to play in the Lackawanna League senior all-star game set for Thursday night at Forest City.

Montrose’s Sam Abbott, Katelyn Spellman and Amelia DiPhillips, Mountain View’s Kayla Kazmierski and Forest City’s Cassie Erdmann and Katie Yale will all play for the “Blue Team.”

Fifteen players from Division I will take on a combination of 14 seniors from Divisions II and III,

starting with a free throw and 3-point shooting contest that will get under way at 6:30 p.m.

The game will follow at approximately 7 p.m., and the rosters are filled with talent that helped their teams reach the state tournament. Of the 29 players in the game, 17 played in the state’s big dance.

Leading the ‘Red Team” will be five players from West Scranton, which reached

the second round of the state tournament, three from Scranton Prep and two from Abington Heights, each of whom lost in the first round of states.

Teammates for the first time on the Blue squad will be Dunmore’s Ashley Murray and Corinna Palko, and Mid Valley’s Alli Walsh and Alyssa Miraglia, whose teams squared off in the state Class AA Eastern final.

Forest City has two players on the squad and Old Forge has one. Each lost on the first weekend of the state Class A tournament.

Rosters are determined by all-star balloting by league coaches.
