Meteors split on courts

The Montrose Area boys’ tennis team took a 5-0 victory over Western Wayne at home on Friday after it faced a 4-1 loss from Scranton Prep on Thursday afternoon at home.

On Friday in singles, Zach Warriner topped Denny Guo, 6-4, 6-1; Michael Roman won by forfeit; and Ryan Ochse bounced Jake Covey, 6-3, 6-0.

In doubles, Isaac Mitchell and Chris Jordan defeated Matt Pinkleraugh and Jake Silfies, 6-1, 6-2; and Montrose won the second doubles match by forfeit.

Against Scranton Prep in singles action, Prep’s Will Cognetti defeated Warriner, 6-1, 6-2; Walker Temperton downed Montrose’s Roman, 6-2, 6-4; and Prep’s Jay Patel defeated Ochse, 6-1, 6-0.

In doubles, Montrose’s Mitchell and Jordan bounced Matt Hanahue and Keller McGurrin, 3-6, 7-5, 6-2; and Prep’s Alex Thomas and Connor Fitzsimmons topped Sean Regan and Bryan Shultz, 6-3, 6-3.
