Plea entered in Megan’s Law violation

BY STACI WILSON

A Montrose area registered sex offender failed to notify authorities within 48 hours of changing jobs which is a felony Megan’s Law violation.

Michael Disinger, 40, pleaded guilty Friday to failure to comply with sex offender registration requirements in Susquehanna County Court.

The charge carries a maximum seven year sentence but District Attorney Jason Legg told the court he has agreed to waive the state’s two-year mandatory minimum.

Legg said in early March police learned Disinger had changed places of work and had not reported the change within the required 48-hour timeframe, instead waiting three weeks before notifying police.

Police, however, always had knowledge of Disinger’s residence, Legg said.

The district attorney told the court that Disinger was convicted in Florida of a sex offense that requires the Megan’s Law registration. He said Florida state parole reported Disinger had done very well adhering to the requirements up until the March incident.

Disinger remains free on his own recognizance. He is scheduled to be sentenced on May 19.
