An Apolacon Twp. man could spend the next 50 years in prison for raping and sexually assaulting a child. The assaults spanned a period of four years, beginning in 2005, when the victim was five years old.

Michael Ray Walter, 37, entered a guilty plea Friday in Susquehanna County Court to involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 13. He could be incarcerated up to 40 years on the count.

In December 2010, Walter also pleaded guilty in to rape of a child which carries a 10-year mandatory minimum sentence.

Legg said it was agreed that the sentence on the involuntary deviate sexual intercourse charge run consecutive to the child rape sentence.

The latest charge, filed in February, came after Walters confessed the child was made to perform other sexual acts with him. District Attorney Jason Legg said the conduct was not disclosed by the girl.

Walter had been ordered to undergo an evaluation by the Pennsylvania Sexual Offenders Assessment Board. However, he waived the hearing and stipulated to being a sexual predator.

Sentencing in both cases has been scheduled for June 23.
