After several pieces of the courthouse complex Warner Building fell onto the Lake Ave. sidewalk about two weeks ago, the commissioners have declared an emergency situation to address the hazard.

At the May 25 meeting, the commissioners noted the building has been checked and there is a danger that seven other area of the building could fail at any time.

The falling debris could present a danger to pedestrians and a portion of the Lake Ave. sidewalk has been closed until repairs are made.

Workers were in the process of repairing the building facade on Friday.

Another county project was also addressed at the meeting. The commissioners awarded contracts to two of the bidders on the 88 Chenango St. property.

The demolition phase of the contract was awarded to low-bidder, Ken Raugh Excavating, Inc., Montrose, at a cost of $22,400.

Reconstruction and renovation of the remaining structure will be done of Jane Construction of Dalton, for $141,000.

The county is also looking to pave a portion of Monument St. which runs in front of the post office and library. Project bids were opened and accepted by the commissioners for review.

Trehab will continue providing the county transportation service. The commissioners agreed to lease the agency 17 vehicles to the agency from Jul 1 through June 30, 2012 at a cost of $1 per vehicle.

Trehab is responsible for all maintenance, repairs, inspections and insurance for the vehicles.

The county vehicles are used for the Shared Ride and Medical Assistance Transportation programs.

Dawn Brozonis has been promoted by District Judge Suzanne Brainard from a clerk/typist position to office manager of the Southern District court office in Clifford.

The commissioners noted the acceptance of the resignation of law clerk Shawn Joyce by President Judge Kenneth Seamans, effective May 20.

A temporary position of Summer Law Clerk was created by the salary board. The judge filled the five-week position. Maxim Ternosky, of Texas, was hired to the temporary slot.

Someone is expected to be hired on a permanent basis after July 1.

Two vehicles are being offered for sale by the county, a 2000 Ford Ranger and a 1998 Dodge Dakota.

The estimated value on both vehicles is under $1000.

Sealed bids are being accepted for a period of 10 days. After 10 days, each vehicle will be awarded to the highest bidder or sold for current junk value, whichever is greater.
