Write-ins earn FC councilwoman ballot slot

BY STACI WILSON

After being knocked off the Democratic primary ticket, incumbent Forest City Councilwoman Bernadette Twilley earned a spot on the November ballot by garnering enough Republican write-in votes.

Twilley will again square off with Joann Matarese, Bernard Scalzo and Barbara Mihelc for three available seats on the borough council.

Write-in nominees have set up a few other ballot challenges for November. Chas Towner received enough GOP votes to earn a ballot slot in the supervisor’s race. He will square off against Democratic nominee Frederick Jackson.

Alton Wilber, of Liberty Twp., also got enough votes to mount a fall run-off with William Goodrich.

In Montrose, first ward, Thomas LaMont earned a ballot position with write-in votes. He will be unopposed on the ballot for the council seat.

Several other nominees, already on the November ballot after the primary, also received enough support from the other party to accumulate a bi-partisan nomination. The primary election vote totals for those candidates can be accumulated.

Those write-ins include: Timothy Legg, Apolacon Twp.; Doug Phelps, Harford Twp.; Fred Benson, Lenox Twp.; Kevin Stockholm, Rush Twp.; and Evan Everitt, Silver Lake Twp.

In Susquehanna, Democratic mayoral nominee Michael Matis also received GOP write-in support.

Letters were sent out to the prospective nominees on Friday, said Susquehanna County Director of Elections Laura Watts. Those candidates who accept the nomination will be added to the November ballot, she said.
