County alarm system changing

A new company will be monitoring and servicing the county alarm system.

The commissioners voted, at the June 22 meeting, to contract with T.N. Pyeron Service, of Dunmore, to handle the trouble and fire alarms in the courthouse complex. The yearly fee for the service is $264.

The alarm system had been monitored in-house at the 911 center.

The company will also monitor the system and test the alarm system on a daily basis.

Chief Clerk Sylvia Beamer said the current alarm system is old and it is difficult to find parts as they are needed.

But with the change, the commissioners voted to discontinue alarm services that had been utilized by some non-governmental county entities by Sept. 1.

Those agencies will be notified by the county and can choose to contract with a new provider on their own.

The commissioners approved a purchase of service agreement between Children and Youth for per diem life skills programs and foster care. The agreement was dated July 1, 2010- June 30, 2011.

Commissioner MaryAnn Warren explained the lag, upon questioning from the audience, that once the county receives the approved contracts from the state, they then appear on the commissioners’ agenda. It is a normal occurrence for Children and Youth agreements.

The commissioners also accepted, with regret, the resignation of Bette VanWinkle, from her position in the assessment office effective end of day, Friday, July 1.

Commissioner Leon Allen was not present for the meeting.

The commissioners meet on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, at 9 a.m., in the lower conference room of the county office building, Public Ave., Montrose. The next meeting is July 13.
