Fourth of July celebrations are planned around the county featuring firework displays in Thompson, Montrose and Union Dale.
Independence Day festivities are planned all around Susquehanna County the week of July 4.
Thompson Hose Company kicks off the events in with their 76th annual Fourth of July Carnival, July 2-4.
The three-day event features rides, food and entertainment.
The carnival opens July 2-3, 5-10 p.m., featuring bingo, beer and clam tent, Water Wars and Speed Pitch, and live bands and DJ’s performing each day. On July 4, festivities run from 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
Fireworks displays will be held at 10 p.m., on both July 3 and 4.

On Sunday, July 3, All-American music will be performed by the Endless Mountains Trio (Corky Staats, Paul Fazio and Carl Hagstrom) at Salt Springs State Park in Franklin Forks at 7 p.m., rain or shine. Bring chairs and blankets to sit on and marshmallows to toast. Free, but a hat will be passed.
A parade steps off July 4 in Franklin Forks at 9:45 a.m., followed by the annual chicken barbecue at the memorial park at 11 a.m. Dinners and halves are available.
In Montrose, the 4th of July celebration starts early with the Endless Mountains Independence Day road races.
Registration is from 6:30-7:30 a.m., at the courthouse. A one-mile Fun Run (no registration required) will start at 7:45 a.m.; followed by the 5k, starting at 8 a.m.; and the 10k race starting at 8:10 a.m.
The first 300 5k and 10k registrants will get commemorative shirts. Awards will be presented to many age groups for both men and women. Again this year, timing and results will be handled by the Triple Cities Runners Club. Racers may pre-register online and check race results at allsportcentral.com, according to race director Fred Malloy.
A Star-Spangled all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast will be served, 7:30-10:30 a.m. at the Montrose United Methodist Church, on the corner of Church and Maple streets.
Over 130 top quality arts and crafts exhibitors will be set up on the Village Green starting at 8 a.m.
A chicken barbecue dinner will also be available, serving starts at 10 a.m.
The highlight of the day will be the Patriotic Parade which steps off at 11 a.m.
The parade route begins from the east end of Grow Ave., near Lake Montrose, and travels to Church St. and up Public Ave., culminating at the Green.
This year’s theme is the “Great Outdoors 4th” and features the state champion girls and boys cross country teams from Elk Lake as the grand marshals.
Fireworks, sponsored by the Montrose Area Chamber of Commerce, will be held at nightfall at the Montrose Area High School.
Rounding out the week is the Union Dale Fireman’s Picnic, July 7-9, at the Picnic Grounds on State Rt. 2023, Union Dale. The parade and fireworks will be held Friday. Lawn tractor pulls will be held on Saturday. Plan to come out and enjoy nightly music and fun at the games, bingo, dunk tank and fire truck rides with your family, friends and neighbors.
