Daniels, Busby declare Independence

Tunkhannock’s Thomas Daniels, 22, took the 10K portion and New Yorker Brian Busby, 18, the 5K portion of the KLR Race for Independence  in Montrose on Monday, July 4.

Daniels, a 22-year-old recent Gettysburg College grad finished the 10K race in a time of 36:16, more than two minutes ahead of second place Michael Murphy, 37, who ran in a time of 38:50.

Top female finisher was Sarah Krizan, 17, of Chenango Forks, N.Y., who finished in a time of 45:02 on a picture perfect day.

In the day’s 5K Race for Independence, Brian Busby, 18, of New Paltz, N.Y., took first in a time of 16:37, just seven seconds ahead of Kent Upham, 19, a recent Northeast Bradford High School grad. His former high school teammate, Curtis Jewett, 16, came in third in a time of 17:08.

Top female finisher in the 5K was Abbie Elliott, 20, of Binghamton, N.Y., who finished in a time of 20:30.

Jacob Peck, 11, of Friendsville, took home the honors in the Fun Run which got runners going at 7:45 a.m.

The day’s races were sponsored by area service prganizations: Kiwanis, Lions and Rotary.
