Great Bend Borough is making progress on the municipal police department, streets with water and drainage problems, and other projects, it was reported at a brief July meeting Thursday night.
The borough’s new roof is finished, and the Little League field and VFW Memorial Park were approved for maintenance and improvements over
the summer.
The building permit was received for the police office, and the council approved the hiring of Brock Scott to finish the building.
The ORI number was also received for the police department.
At a special meeting for the police department on June 20, the council noted that the radios have been received, a shotgun was ordered, and a cage, a shotgun holder/trunk mount, and uniforms are still needed.
A road check of Mountain Vista Lane was done by Mike VanGorden, Patricia Thatcher, Jerry MacConnell, and Rick Franks, and a report was
made.
A dumpster will be rented for the collection of unwanted metal items.
Cosmellos will pay $25 for a full dumpster of scrap metal. The
municipal building needs to be painted, and has been advertised for bids.
A Reservoir Protection Ordinance for Comfort Pond is still in the works.
Bret Jennings is researching similar ordinances.
At the June meeting, Ron Cranage presented a check to the borough for $1,000 for maintenance of the VFW park on behalf of the Musa-Stiles
Post 6223. Cranage suggested that Andre & Son be hired for work on the infield at the Little League ball park, as it needs to be completely redone after being underwater most of the spring season.
They have done the job well in the past. Also, Tom Franks noted that in the past four years, the field has not been taken care of before May 1, and that the Little League season starts April 1.
Mowing and other care
should be done earlier. He suggested that the borough buy an edger, and that the baselines need topsoil. He said that 10 years ago, the field was among the nicest, but it is no longer so.
The Little League offered to split the charges for Andre & Son with the borough. The council approved getting the field done.
