Burglary of cop house goes to higher court

The case against a Factoryville man accused of burglarizing the home of a Susquehanna County Deputy Sheriff in May has been transferred to Susquehanna County Court.

Treavor Scott Murdter, 35, of 98 College Ave., appeared before District Judge Suzanne Brainard yesterday and waived his preliminary hearing.  He is accused of felony burglary, theft by unlawful taking, and criminal conspiracy in this incident.

According to the police complaint, Deputy Sheriff Donald Bennett reported that his home had been burglarized on May 3.  Items stolen included a camera, jewelry, a strong box containing official papers, and a pillow case.  Bennett also reported damage to the front and rear windows of the home.

During the course of the investigation, numerous jewelry stores and “cash for gold” locations were checked for sales of these items.  Paul Kobiereck of Vintage Gold and coin store inDicksonCitywas able to provide receipts and photos of jewelry purchased from Murdter and three others alleged to be involved in the crime.  Bennett was able to identify some of those items as his own.

Murdter was named as a co-conspirator in this incident by Rebecca Fay and Jason Fay, both ofGreenfieldTownship.  They are charged with multiple felonies related to a string of burglaries occurring inWyomingCounty, but in Susquehanna,Wayne,Lackawanna, andMonroeCountiesgoing back as far as Mar. 2010.

Rebecca Fay, during an interview with state police, stated she, Jason Fay, and Treadtor had laughed about breaking into the residence of a sheriff.

She is currently free on $10,000 unsecured bail.

Jason Fay remains in theLuzerneCountyprison.

Murdter has been incarcerated in the Susquehanna County Prison since July 2010.  His formal arraignment is scheduled for Aug. 16,1 p.m._
