A Montrose-area man accused of slicing the throat of aSusquehannaCountyfamily’s Labrador Retriever Friday in front of a child waived his preliminary hearing in Montrose District Court Monday.

Daniel Nash, 27, allegedly also stabbed the three-year-old dog, “Jamison” multiple times in front of the six-year-old boy.

After undergoing emergency surgery Friday at the Montrose Veterinary Clinic, Jamison is recovering at home.

Owner Joshua Rosenkrans said Monday he still couldn’t understand why the attack happened.

“He needs help,” Rosenkrans said of Nash. “I just hope he gets the help he needs.”

The family pet sustained over 13 wounds and required 150 stitches on the outside and more on the inside, his owners said Monday. Veterinary costs are expected to be near $1,000.

According to the police affidavit, Nash telephoned the Rosenkrans residence over 20 times, Aug. 10-11, demanding money from them and threatened to come to their home if they did not pay him.

Police said Nash’s claims the victims owed money to him were unfounded.

According to police, Nash, who was wearing a bandana over his face attacked the dog – grabbing it by the head and slicing its throat. Police said Nash then stabbed the dog multiple times until he was chased off the property by the Rosenkrans.

Nash faces a felony count of criminal attempt – robbery, as well as simple assault, terroristic threats, stalking, recklessly endangering another person, criminal trespass and cruelty to animals charges.

He is being held on $50,000 bail or 10 percent cash equivalent.
