Montrose upsets Elk Lake in volleyball

The Montrose Area girls’ volleyball team took a 3-2 victory over Elk Lake at home on Tuesday evening.

Brooke Malloy had nine kills and Dallas Ely had 11 digs to lead Montrose to its first win in the Lackawanna League in a Division II match.

Miranda Dunne added seven aces for the Lady Meteors who were winless in their first season. Ally Stocks had eight assists.

Montrose defeated the Warriors 25-21 in the first set, 25-21 in the second, before the Warriors came back to take consecutive wins, 25-20 and 25-22 to tie it up at 2-2. The Meteors then took a 15-5 win in the final set.

Mountain View

At Mountain View, Dominique Chadwick had nine kills and five aces and Kerri Jarnigan had 18 assists and six aces to lead the Eagles in a 3-1 victory over Blue Ridge.

Melissa Monahan added seven kills and Taylor Nally had nine aces for the Lady Eagles.

Kailey Ragard had four kills and three aces, Allison Coller had five kills and one block, Ashley Warren had 14 assists and Kristen Brown had four kills and three aces for Blue Ridge.

The Eagles defeated the Raiders 25-14 in the first set before Blue Ridge won the second set 25-23. Mountain View then came back to win two consecutive 25-18 sets for the victory.

Forest City

Forest City’s girls’ volleyball team faced a 3-0 loss from Dunmore at home on Tuesday evening.

The Lady Bucks defeated the Foresters 25-14, 25-4 and 25-14 to hand the team its first loss of the season in its opener.

Kristine Kuriger had six blocks and five points, Samantha Kuriger had four blocks, two kills and seven points and Morgan Saul had one block, one ace and eight points for Forest City.
