Susquehanna County Democrats held their annual steak bake on Sept. 18, at the Harford Fire Hall.
Party chairman Robert McNamara was ably assisted by his wife, Carol; Christine Sezer, vice-chair; Melonie Kozlowski, secretary; Rick Ainey, treasurer.; Nancy Hurley, state committee.
Party members and county officials generously donated door prizes and numerous items for the silent auction. Linda Schell donated the cake that fed the 85 attending. The chairman offered a big thank-you to members of the Harford Fire Company for preparing and serving the steak dinner.
McNamara introduced the county’s elected officials from both parties and those who will be on the November ballot:countyCommissionercandidates MaryAnn Warren, Leon Allen, Michael Giangrieco and Alan Hall; district judge candidate Jodi Cordner; prothonotary Sue Eddleston; register and recorder Mary Evans; sheriff Lance Benedict; auditor candidates Sue Jennings and Melonie Kozlowski.
Also recognized were former chairman John Hoffman and wife Karen and former chairman Joseph Plonski; former Congressman Chris Carney and family members along with April Beeman Metwalli; and other friends of the party from surrounding counties.
Candidates speaking wereJenningsand Kozlowski who gave their qualifications and experience with the work necessary to hold the position of auditor. Both candidates asked for support in the upcoming election.
Commissioner Allen named the committees he serves and how the present commissioners have kept the spending under control. Allen talked about the long hours and the problems experienced during the recent disaster. He thanked everyone for their support in the past and asked for support this November.
Commissioner Warren thanked everyone for the opportunity to serve the 43,000 county residents for almost eight years as their full-time commissioner making hard decisions that effect those who pay her full-time salary.
“It is not a popularity contest,”Warrensaid, noting her appointment to state commissions and committees means relationships exist with state and federal agencies and officials to ensure they knowSusquehannaCountyexists. She also humbly asked for their support and vote.
