Laser pays lobbying penalty

BY ROBERT SWIFT, Times-Shamrock Writer

HARRISBURG – A natural gas pipeline company has paid a nearly $2,000 penalty for failing to file a required quarterly report on spending for lobbying last year.

The state Ethics Commission levied the penalty of $1,995 against Laser Northeast Gathering Co. LLC for being nearly two months late in filing the report covering the fourth quarter of 2010. The commission approved a consent agreement with the firm earlier this week. Laser has already made payment.

The commission, which enforces the lobbyist disclosure act, considers Laser’s failure to file the report “negligent in nature.”

The report was eventually filed June 21, almost two months after a warning notice was sent April 25 by the commission. That report shows that Laser spent $8,162 on lobbying in that fourth quarter.

Laser spent $8,018 on lobbying during the first quarter of 2011 and $8,060 in the second quarter of 2011, according to reports filed with the Department of State.

Laser is building a 30-mile pipeline project inSusquehannaCountythat will transport natural gas from wells in the area to the Millennium Interstate Pipeline.
