County approves solid waste plan

The county commissioners approved the mandated 10-year update to its Municipal Waste Management Plan at the Oct. 26 meeting.

The plan prepared by members of the Solid Waste Advisory Committee and Recycling Coordinator Jennifer Hibbard deals with the storage, transportation, processing and disposal of solid waste in the county.

The commissioners also voted to hire Williams Briggs, of Friendsville, as the assistant processing manager at the county recycling center.

The commissioners also signed maintenance agreements and a service quote for various pieces of equipment at theRecyclingCenter.

Emergency Management Director Charlene Moser was authorized to act as the applicant agent for the county for Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee.

Commissioner Michael Giangrieco said some county bridges were damaged in the storms that hit the region in early September.

The commissioners accepted with regret, the resignation/retirement of Sally Button from Children & Youth, effective Nov. 30.

Christine Raines, Springville, was hired as a Case Aide in Children & Youth.

Brian James, Susquehanna, was hired as a Clerk/Typist also in the Children & Youth department.

The bid to replace and install a new generator at the courthouse was awarded to Reed’s Generator Service LLC, Jackson, for $42,660.

The HVAC maintenance contract for the county was awarded to United Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc., Pittston Twp. for $16,000 for the two-year contract. Other charges were agreed to for repair work, emergency service and travel time.

November was proclaimed by the commissioners as Adoption Awareness Month inSusquehannaCounty.

The salary board set the 2012 holiday schedule for county employees. The schedule includes 11 paid holidays for county workers.
