What started 10 year ago as a friendly competition between brothers Ron and Roger Crawford has grown to where there are many friends and neighbors receiving seeds from the Crawford brohers to try their hand at growing a big pumpkin.

But, as in the past a Crawford was the winner, this year it was Ron. The winner gets a trophy to keep for the year.

So far Ron or Roger have won every year but the competition is getting stronger, a family member said.

The pumpkins are getting too big to handle but thanks to Eddie Green bringing his fork lift and scale the brothers and Ron’s former business partner (now retired), David Burman, were able to weigh the pumpkins.
The Crawfords buy some seeds on the internet and use some of their own. Anyone interested in growing pumpkins next year can send Ron a self addressed stamped envelope and he will send a seed.

The top winners for 2011, out of 17 pumpkins reaching maturity are:1st-Ron Crawford, 720 lbs; 2-Roger Crawford, 567; 3-Denise Lyons, 557; 4-David Burman, 548; 5-Dianne Burman, 500; 6-Eddy Reddon, 433; 7-Barbara Glover, 409.

Enjoying the party at the Ron and Sue Crawford residence onProspect Street, to celebrate the winners were 145 family members and friends of the participents in this years contest.
