The family and friends of Mary Mushala filled the dining room at Lakey’s in
Susquehanna for the Oct. 27, meeting of the Nellie Jane DeWitt Business and Professional Women’s Club to honor her for being named the club’s ‘Woman of the Year.’

Mushala is presently serving as president of the club and recently led club members through a successful BPW District Eight Fall Conference where NJD was the host club.

The Director of Nursing at Endless Mountain Health Systems in Montrose was described by the hospital’s CEO Rex Catlin, “as someone who leads by example.”

Catlin said the hospital is fortunate to have Mushala in charge of the nursing department as she recently carried off with flying colors changes in that department.

Accompaning Catlin to the dinner were EMHS chief financial officer Loren Stone and many of Mushala’s co-workers and family members who honored her with bouquets of flowers and gifts.

Former ‘Woman of the Year’ Colleen Wilks, who serves as Mushala’s vice-president, also spoke highly of her as not only a friend but a valuable member of the club.

Club member Linda Chesnick who had sponsored Mushala for membership in the local chapter was also present.

Darlene Slocum, who chaired the program, presented Mushala with a pin, gift and a citation from the club.

Mushala joined the club in 2006 and is serving her second year as president. She has been involved with the club’s annual golf tournament and is on hand for the annual SNF Valentine Party.

Citations were read from Rep. Sandra Major and the SusquehannaBorough.

Commissioner MaryAnn Warren attended the dinner and personally presented a county citation that acknowledged her contributions to her community and her church, St. John’s Church in Forest City.

District Eight Assistant Director Susan Vladika made her official visit to NJD Club and told the members she liked being there for the special night.

During the business meeting Linda Bedford gave a report on the club’s Spa Day at the Susquehanna County Career and Technology Center. The event was well attended with several new members being added to the club’s roster as a result of the event.

Members were reminded of upcoming events, Christmas Ttee Lighting and Breakfast with Santa.
The Nov. 17 meeting will be the club’s 56th Birthday Party and all members are urged to attend.
