Gibson State Police uncovered 800 bags of heroin concealed by a bedroom comforter set in the trunk of aBinghamtonman’s vehicle on Jan. 27.
Terrence J. Fernanders, 38, was stopped for a traffic violation on I-81 northbound, Lenox Twp., on Jan. 27. Numerous criminal indicators were present, police said. A search was requested and granted.
The police search yielded 800 bags of heroin located in the trunk of the vehicle. Teh drugs were concealed by a Nautica comforter set.
According to police, the street value of the heroin is about $20,000.
Fernanders was charged by Tpr. Robert Romanaskas with possession with intent to deliver; possession of a controlled substance; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was arraigned by District Judge Suzanne Brainard. Bail was set at $300,000.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Jan. 31 in Clifford District Court.
On Jan. 18, state police discovered 170 bags of heroin in a vehicle stopped also stopped on I-81. The four adults traveling in that vehicle -Paul Rivera, John Portalatin, Shelby Rivera, and Kathryn Rivera – are also facing drug charges in Clifford District Court.
