FMS Legion drops doubleheader

The FMS Generals Senior American Legion team faced a pair of losses from Hamlin on Saturday as the team lost 4-2 in the opener and 10-6 in the nightcap.

The first game saw both teams battle to a scoreless tie through the first four innings before Hamlin opened the game up with a run in the top of the fifth and another in the top of the seventh to make it 2-0.

FMS then scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to send the game into extra innings. However, a pair of Hamlin runs in the top of the eighth sealed the win over FMS.

Mason Mecke doubled, singled and scored a run for FMS while Victor Rosa, Owen Flannery, and Arnold each had a hit for the Generals.

Pete Murazzi was the losing pitcher giving up three hits, one earned run and three walks while striking out two in two innings.

In the nightcap, Hamlin struck first with a run in the top of the third inning before FMS brought home two in the bottom of the third to take the lead.

Hamlin then brought home a run in the fifth to tie the game at two apiece. FMS then scored three runs in the sixth to make it a 5-2 game, however, Hamlin sent the game into extra innings with three runs in the top of the seventh.

Hamlin took the win scoring five runs in the top of the eighth with FMS only mustering one more run.

Flannery took the pitching loss for the Generals giving up 11 hits and seven earned runs while striking out three in seven innings.

Mecke had a pair of singles and scored a run while O’Brien had a single and scored a run.

Traveling north on Route 81, take exit 194 for Clarks Summit. Pick up Route 11 north and travel for approximately 18 miles to Hop Bottom. Turn left at the blinker light and left again onGreenwood Street. Watch for signs. Sleepy Hollow Farm is on the left about one mile.

The festive nature of the trial, year to year, brings more and more spectators. The field is expertly groomed, tents and bleachers are provided for the spectators and handlers. Various shops and clinics are offered on site. Handlers and spectators are housed in the same areas to allow communication between them.

Programs with running orders are provided for ease of following the action. The church services are held on Sunday, June 17, beginning at7 a.m.to add to the pleasure of the day.

A mini deli is usually available on Monday and Tuesday. The event is a great way for the family to celebrate Father’s Day Weekend.
