Diaz Companies recently donated $1000 – proceeds raised in a raffle at this year’s Cabot Picnic - to the Summer Lunch Box program. The donation will allow this non-profit organization to purchase fresh and non-perishable foods for children in our area during the summer months, when free or reduced meals are not available. Since buying the former Donald Deans & Sons plant in Montrose just before the new year, Adam Diaz has spent the past seven months working to improve the wood manufacturing business.
With updated equipment, a new showroom and a facelift to the facade, Diaz and his employees are ready to show off their efforts to the public in an Open House, which will be held Saturday, Aug. 4,10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Those attending can take a factory tour and speak with the workers who will be on-hand to answer questions about the wood items – such as cabinet doors, frame stock, wainscoting, hardwood floors and counter tops – made at the Montrose location.
Since taking over the business, the number of employees has grown from 53 to 70, Diaz said. And women make up at least half of the manufacturing workforce.
“They are good people who really want to make it work,” Diaz said.
And they are making it work – with some help from Diaz’s lumber mill in Kingsley which is able to supply the wood needs. The mill cuts a lot of hard maple and cherry, Diaz said, popular woods for the cabinetry work.
In the showroom, would-be customers can browse the cabinet-front samples, floors and more of the available products. And custom, walk-in orders can be taken at the counter.
Diaz said, “People don’t really know what we do here. It’s good for them to be able to see what we do.”
